Platform Update – August 2021

🚀 New features

Studio

Get ready for the most significant update to Studio ever. We have completely reworked how you create your home walls, manage rows & schedule your content!

From 2019 onwards, we’ve released many features to Studio that make it easier to localize your content. For example, Localised Titles, Localised Media, and sending push notifications to multiple storefronts at the same time. In the end, this made it easier and less time-consuming to manage multiple storefronts.

The ultimate goal was a situation in which you would only have to manage a single, fully localized home wall. However, in practice, this wasn’t wholly possible just yet. We found that the current setup wouldn’t suffice whenever a promotion, and home wall tile, was only scheduled for a number of storefronts.

We’ve gathered all your feedback and our learnings and have now completely reworked the Home Merchandise Manager. The most significant new feature is the possibility to publish and schedule rows instead of entire home walls. We’ve also redesigned the way you preview your home wall and made it a lot easier to reorder your rows.

WHAT’S NEW?
  • SCHEDULE ROWS: Instead of managing complete home walls, you will now manage all your rows independently. Creating a completely new home wall will no longer be necessary whenever you want to add a single row for a selected period.
  • ALL NEW FILTERS: With a total of 4 filters, it’s now even easier to manage your home wall content.
  • PUBLISH AND END DATE: It’s now possible to schedule a row for a selected time period and have it automatically disappear on the end date. Want to show your Mother’s Day promotion only during the weekend? Easy-peasy!
  • PREVIEW A HOME WALL: Scheduling your next campaign and want to check what it will look like? Just select a date and time in the future and preview your content on the device preview. Or scan the QR code and preview the entire home wall on your device easily.
  • CHANGE ORDER: With the new Change Order functionality, you can easily drag and drop your home wall into the correct setup.
  • FILTER ON STOREFRONT: When filtering on a storefront, the device preview in Studio will now show the rows for that specific storefront only.
  • ARCHIVE: Rows that are unpublished manually or exceeded their scheduled end date will be stored for 90 days in the archive.
WHEN CAN YOU USE THE NEW HOME MERCHANDISE MANAGER?

The new HMM will gradually be rolled out on a brand-by-brand approach. During the roll out your Studio environment will have two HMM’s. We’ll need to make sure that all your current home wall content ends up in the new HMM seamlessly. Luckily we can easily migrate all your existing content to the new HMM, which takes away a lot of manual work. The steps will be as follows:

  1. HIGHSTREET: Will enable both HM managers
  2. HIGHSTREET: Will migrate existing wall to the new manager
  3. YOU: Will verify home wall content in the new manager
  4. HIGHSTREET: Will disable old home merchandise manager

Video lookbook improvements

In the previous cycle, we’ve released a significant amount of improvements for the video lookbooks on iOS. In this cycle, it’s time for Android to receive all these improvements. So to remind you, what were these improvements?

IMPROVEMENTS

We started by updating the preview video on the lookbook overview, which means that we will now show a preview of the video lookbook in the overview. And the best thing is, this preview will be auto-generated when the video lookbook is uploaded to Studio. No extra manual work, even existing lookbooks will automatically get a generated preview. And, the outcome shows a more delightful overview and makes it clear which lookbook contains a video.

This preview will have a 5-second duration, and it will loop infinitely. This basically means that we updated the cycle of the video lookbooks as well. Previously, at the end of a video, a screen would be displayed with the option to replay. We’ve now improved this by having the videos loop infinitely.

Video lookbooks will keep looping as long as the user views the video, either on the overview or in full view. All video lookbook previews will play automatically, making it easy for the user to distinguish which lookbook contains a video and make the overview come alive.

We also wanted to enhance the product display and ease product navigation within a lookbook. So, just as you can swipe through the product cards, we also enabled the swipe feature within the video lookbook. So now, users can swipe through the visual content from the top of the video. We also added a dark edge behind the products to give it more depth between the layers on top of the video.

All features mentioned above are already available out-of-the-box.

Products model (Final phase)

And the best thing is, this preview will be auto-generated when the video lookbook is uploaded to Studio. No extra manual work, even existing lookbooks will automatically get a generated preview. Android

Favorite Synchronization

Following iOS, Favorite Synchronization will now also be released on Android. This feature allows customers to save products in the app and see them in their favorites section on the website (or the other way around).
When a user logs in, the app automatically retrieves existing favorites from the website. The app then combines website favorites with app favorites, which can also be accessed from either the website or the app. Even though your website might offer multiple favorites lists, the app will only support maintaining one list. Together we can discuss the best setup for this.

The feature has been implemented for brands on Salesforce Commerce Cloud. The feature can be enabled through configurations to the brands’ storefronts. Our team will reach out to all Salesforce customers soon after the release with more technical details.

For brands that are on Magento 2 or other platforms, a custom setup is required.

Please reach out to our team for more details.

iOS

Sign in with Apple

We are always keen on simplifying the app flows as much as possible. A part of that includes an easy setup for new users, and the sign-in with Apple can, for some users, reduce a good chunk of steps when signing up. Sign in with Apple allows your iOS app users to create an account with their Apple ID within seconds. With just a few taps, your users can now set up an account without the need to remember their password ever again. This feature will boost the conversion rate of account creations and help reduce conversion loss when customers are logged out and forgot their passwords.

To enable Sign In with Apple a small setup is required. Please reach out to us to discuss the details.

App Clips foundational changes

When looking back on the first App Clip we created, it turned out to be hard to get the App Clip to fit in the 10MB limit set by Apple. We were only able to make it work if we enabled bitcode. A bug (somewhere in Apple’s toolchain) makes crash reports for large frameworks that have bitcode enabled near useless. Because we are planning to create much more App Clips, we needed to make creating and maintaining App Clips future-proof. This project took care of that, and we are excited to release more App Clips in the future based on this project.

Backend

Secure configurations

With this project, we made several security improvements to our configuration repository. This repository contains all configuration settings for all the brands. We as well took the opportunity to work on the general structure of how we work with the configurations of our apps, to enhance the overall platform security.
